State Park Softball 11/12 All-Stars go 1 and 2 at Sectional to end season
    State Park Little League Softball 11/12 All Stars ended their season on the losing end of a sectional tournament Sunday.
    The District 1 champs went up against a strong District 2 team from DeMotte in a best two-out-of-three tournament hosted at State Park Field.
   State Park 4, DeMotte 3
 The State Park "Slammers" opened with a 4-3 victory Friday night behind the pitching of Abby Canright, who struck out 7 while walking four. Offense was contributed by Hannah McCafferty with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored; Kayla Karriman with two hits and two runs scored; Hannah Sakelaris with a hit and a run scored and Trenee Fancher-Keller with a hit and an RBI. Also getting a hit was Kaitlyn Hasselberger.
    Defensive assists and putouts were made by Canright, Shelby Gwizdalski, Karriman, Fancher-Keller, Sierra LaFreniere and McCafferty, who made a diving catch to end the 5th inning.
  DeMotte 6 & 9; State Park 3 and 0
  In the second and third games the State Park bats fell silent and the team lost 6-3 and 9-0.
  The one highlight was the fifth inning of Game Two. Trailing 4-0 the Slammers put three runs on the board. LaFreniere started things off with a single. Runs were scored by Courtney O'Keefe, Gwizdalski and McCafferty with RBIs going to McCafferty and Fancher-Keller (two).
   Sakelaris had three hits in the final two games. O'Keefe and McCafferty had two each, and Karriman had one. Canright managed to draw three walks from the mostly error-free DeMotte pitching staff.
    Defensive plays in the two games were made by McCafferty, Karriman, Sakelaris, Gwizdalski, Natalie Melcher, Kaitlyn Hasselberger, Canright and Fancher-Keller.
    Also, playing was Hayley Sabol, who was the winning pitcher in the first game of the District 1 tournament July 2.
