9/10 Boys AllStars District recaps

The State Park 9/10 boys team defeated Merrillville 10-0, in the opening game of the 2008 District Tournament. Zach Burris and Kyle Krol combined to throw a five inning no-hitter, Burris punching out seven strikeouts. Burris had three hits, and Alec Emmons six stolen bases to lead the offensive attack. Merrillville only batted two batters over the minimum.
The 9 & 10 Boys defeated Portage National, 16-4 in four innings for the second win in their quest for a District Title. Johnny Dujmovich picked up the win, while Shawn Charlson, Kyle Krol and Nick Perez chose an opportune time to shine in relief. Rhett Rondinelli stroked the first homerun of the tournament for the 9 & 10’s, while Ethan Conway closed out the game with a three run double to the gap in right field. Team play, heads up baserunning, timely hitting, and effective pitching have placed the 9 & 10’s in a position to succeed. The 9 & 10’s have outscored their opponents 26-4 in the first two games of the tournament. Next up for the hard-charging 9 &10’s is Lakes of the Four Seasons, Tuesday, July 8, 8:00 PM, State Park Little League. The 9 & 10 Baseball District Tournament team squeezed past LOFS, 4-3, to advance to the Finals in the Winner’s bracket. In relief of a gutsy start by Zach Burris, Patrick Arndt shut down LOFS for four innings to pick up the win, while Johnny Dujmovich, struck out the final batter to close out the game. Nick Andert drove in the tying run and scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the third inning; Nick Perez knocked in 2 of State Park’s runs. Next up for State Park’s 9 & 10’s, Lakefront-Michigan City, 5:30 Tuesday night at State Park Little League The 9 & 10 Tournament team pushed past favored Lakefront Michigan City Tuesday, 8-4, to advance to the Championship game. State Park was led by Johnny Dujmovich’s commanding effort on the mound, striking out four and walking none over five innings. Kyle Krol and Shawn Charlson finished out the game in relief, with Charlson striking out the final two batters to end the game. Alec Emmons and Lucas Rhed each had two RBI in the win, while the offense scored eight runs on 12 walks and only four hits. Excellent defense and aggressive baserunning were again the trademark of State Park. State Park faces the winner of the Portage American vs. Lakefront Michigan City game Wednesday, on Thursday, July 17, 6:00 PM The SPLL 9 & 10 tournament team suffered a tough loss Thursday to Lakefront Michigan City, 7-6. Zach Burris threw four solid innings, and turned the game over to the bullpen with a comfortable 5-2 lead. State Park added a run in the top of the sixth, however, Lakefront scored five in the bottom of the frame to pull the game out, 7-6. State Park plays Friday night, 6:00 at State Park against Michigan City for the District Championship, each team suffering only one loss so far.
