On Wednesday, July 22, 2009, State Park 10/11 All-Stars won their opening round game in the single elimination four team District Championship Round. The boys came through with solid hitting throughout the game. The team had ten hits. Zach Burris, Alec Emmons, and Jack Mullin each had two hits. Things got going quickly for the boys this game. The boys had bases loaded and two outs when Mullin crushed a double. All three base runners scored, Rhett Rondinelli scoring from first. The hits kept coming in the second inning. Nathan Tilden led off with a single. A walk by Nick Andert, a sacrafice bunt by Lucas Rhed, and a walk by Emmons loaded the bases again. This time Burris delivered the key hit. Two boys would cross the plate. Garret Swanson followed with his own RBI. In the third Patrick Arndt and Jeremy Driskill each had hits. The boys continued their attack in the fourth inning. Emmons started it out with a single. The boys for the third time in the game scored three runs. Yet, as good as the hitting was that was only half the story. Pitching was dominant. Garrett Swanson threw a complete game. He gave up no walks. He had five strike outs. He gave up two hits. He had three balls and no strikes twice but both times came back to get strike outs. He left no questions that he was the better pitcher for the day by fanning the last batter in three pitches. The boys play in the Championship Game Friday night at 6:00 p.m. in Portage against Valparaiso.
